Community Guidelines
What is and isn't allowed on CampusMarket
Effective Date: March 13, 2026
CampusMarket is built on trust between students. These Community Guidelines exist to protect every user — buyers, sellers, and the broader campus community. Violations are taken seriously and may result in account suspension, permanent bans, and referral to law enforcement.
1. The Golden Rules
Be honest.
List exactly what you have, in the condition it is actually in.
Be safe.
Meet in public places. Tell someone where you are going.
Be fair.
Honor your commitments to buyers and sellers.
Be respectful.
Every user on this platform is a fellow student.
2. What You Can List
CampusMarket is designed for second-hand goods commonly needed by college students, including: Furniture (desks, chairs, beds, shelving, lamps), Kitchen items (cookware, appliances, dishes), Electronics (laptops, monitors, keyboards, speakers), Decor (art, plants, mirrors, curtains), Textbooks and academic supplies, Clothing and accessories, Sports and fitness equipment, and free items.
3. What You Cannot List — Zero Tolerance
Listing prohibited items results in immediate permanent account ban. Prohibited items include: drugs or drug paraphernalia, weapons including knives or firearms, stolen property, counterfeit goods, alcohol or tobacco, prescription drugs, any recalled product, adult content, live animals, and anything illegal.
4. Listing Quality Standards
Use real photos of the actual item. Describe all damage, wear, or defects honestly. Set a fair price — price gouging during move-in season is prohibited. Do not create duplicate listings. Remove listings immediately when an item sells.
5. Safe Meeting Guidelines
Meet in public, well-lit locations. Never meet someone alone at night for a transaction over $50. Never allow a stranger into your home. Tell a friend where you are going. If something feels wrong, leave.
Recommended locations: campus security office, library lobby, student union, local police station parking lot.
6. Communication Standards
Be polite in all messages. Respond to serious inquiries within 24 hours. Honor sale commitments. Do not use Platform messaging for spam or solicitation. Do not use slurs, threats, or hateful content.
6A. Reviews and Ratings
Reviews must reflect your honest, firsthand experience. Sellers may not offer incentives for positive reviews. Buyers may not threaten negative reviews to extract concessions. Fake reviews are prohibited.
7. Discrimination Policy
CampusMarket strictly prohibits discrimination in any transaction based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law. Violations result in immediate permanent termination.
